Lionel Chetwynd is one of the good guys in Hollywood and one of the few outspoken conservatives.
Lionel has over 40 feature and long-form television credits and has written, produced, and directed over 21 documentaries. These have varied from romances (Goldenrod) to a Vietnam trilogy (Hanoi Hilton, Kissinger and Nixon, To Heal a Nation) to his examination of seemingly ordinary people caught up in extraordinary circumstances (Sadat, The Man Who Captured Eichmann, Varian’s War) and historical pieces (Ike: Countdown to D-Day, Two Solitudes, Darkness at High Noon: the Carl Forman Documents, and Johnny We Hardly Knew Ye). He has received both Oscar and Emmy nominations, an ACTRA Award, Two Genie Nominations, six Writers Guild of America nominations, including an award, the New York Festival Gold Medal, two Christophers, two George Washington Freedom Medals, and seven Telly Awards. He has received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane letters from Columbia College (Hollywood) and is a recipient of the Caucus of Writers, Directors and Producers Lifetime Achievement Award and their American Spirit award, as well as the Smithsonian John Singleton Copley Medal. The trade paper Variety’s 100 anniversary edition named him one of Hollywood’s 100 icons of the first Century. From 2001 to 2009, he served on the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities.
